Fire Investigator
Riffe Fire Investigations welcomed Matthew (Matt) Rice, Sr., to our team effective June 2026. He has investigated hundreds of fires in the public sector. He has earned several professional certifications, including the industry’s gold standard, Certified Fire Investigator from the International Association of Arson Investigators. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree with a cognate in Leadership and a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resource Management with a Minor in Leadership.
Since 2004, he has served as an Assistant Fire Marshal, Deputy Fire Marshal, and Chief Deputy Fire Marshal. Matt started his fire service career with the Mechanicsville Volunteer Fire Department in Virginia in May of 1990, and has worked for the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, Prince William Fire and Rescue Department, the Henrico Division of Fire, and Hanover Fire EMS. He has held several positions within these departments, including Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief. He holds professional certification and has served as the department's Health and Safety Officer and Lead Tactical Medic.
Matt is an experienced Fire Investigator with a strong background in determining the origin and cause of fires through systematic scene examinations, evidence analysis, and witness interviews. With expertise in fire dynamics, building construction, and applicable fire codes, he works closely with industry professionals to conduct thorough and objective investigations. Committed to accuracy, integrity, and public safety, Matt has investigated a wide range of residential, commercial, and industrial fire incidents and remains dedicated to ongoing professional development and adherence to industry standards.
